Development of subject knowledge in bilingual primary schools
Development of subject knowledge in bilingual primary schools
Starting with the school year 2015/16 we were able to monitor the start of a bilingual breach at a primary school in Heidenheim a.d. Brenz, where the subject science was taught in English. While the main focus of the research was on the development of subject knowledge, we also examined the development of the English and German language skills from both the bilingual and the German-speaking classes.
We also cooperated with the school and its teachers in designing lessons and material in one of our courses (Proseminar Bilingual Education), so that our students were able to hold their own bilingual science lessons at the school and not only get valuable experiences, but also useful feedback from the teachers.
This project ran until the school year 2018/19 and was supported by the companies Voith and Hartmann and the city Heidenheim a.d Brenz. A newspaper article can be found here.
