Reading and writing in primary schools with different foreign language programmes
Reading and writing in primary schools with different foreign language programmes (since 2011)
In this project we address the question of how children’s reading and writing skills develop in primary schools which offer English language programmes of different intensity. These programmes include primary schools with English lessons (from grade 1 or 3) as well as bilingual programmes, where subjects such as maths, science, music and / or PE are taught in English. The focus of this project is on the question as to how intensity affects reading and writing skills in English as well as in German. Furthermore, we examine the development of heterogeneous learner groups, e.g. children with and without a migrant background (who often grow up multilingual) or learners with special needs, who exhibit reading and writing difficulties or attention problems in the foreign language classroom.
